Remco Smulders

Remco Smulders has served as the Universiteiten van Nederland its Board secretary since March 2019. In this role, he oversees the decision-making process within the association and handles the necessary preparations for executive consultations with external parties. The Board secretary is also involved with strategic projects, such as the development of a vision on the future of the binary system. 

Remco studied Public Administration at Tilburg University and subsequently completed a Research Master’s in Public Administration and Management Science at Utrecht University. After graduating, he began working as an academic researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In his next position as a researcher/adviser at Partners+Pröpper, Remco carried out numerous applied research projects, particularly in municipalities. Remco joined the Universiteiten van Nederland in 2016 and spent his first three years working as a policy adviser in a range of policy areas.
